Introduction

Malaria transmission ranges from unstable and epidemic in Puntland and Somaliland to moderate in central Somalia to high in the south. The annual reported number of malaria cases in 2010 was 24,553 with 6 deaths.

Progress

Somalia has made steady progress in scaling-up malaria control interventions and has, in particular, been successful in attracting resources through the Global Fund Round 10. The country has secured adequate funding for the procurement of the required anti-malarial commodities in 2012 and beyond. Somalia has introduced a policy for Community Case Management of malaria.

  • There have been long delays in the signature of the Global Fund Round 10 grant, delaying program scale-up.
