Introduction

The entire population of Guinea is at high risk of malaria. The annual reported number of malaria cases in 2010 was 1,092,554 with 735 deaths.

Progress

Guinea has banned oral artemisinin-based monotherapies and removed tariffs on all anti-malarial commodities. In addition, the country had introduced a policy on Community Case Management of malaria. Resources have been mobilized through the Global Fund Round 10 grant.

Impact

The annual reported number of malaria cases in 2010 was 1,092,554 with 735 deaths. There has been an increase in the number of reported malaria cases, admissions and deaths from 2008 to 2010.

Key Challenges

  • Delay in disbursement of funds pledged by partners for the purchase and distribution of LLINs.
  • Limited number of partners involved in the financing and implementation of program activities.
  • Program Coordination and M&E weaknesses.
