From the data provided since 2007, malaria admissions and deaths have shown an increasing trend with 78,983 probable and confirmed cases, 12,802 malaria admissions and 23 deaths reported in 2009, all higher than in the previous two years.
Key Challenges
- The RBM road map has not been updated for two quarters, and information on the gaps cannot be obtained.
- The continuous marketing of oral artemisinin-based monotherapies for the treatment of uncomplicated malaria.
- The absence of a Community Case Management policy for malaria.
- Private sector noncompliance to national malaria treatment protocol.
- Need for national resources to urgently procure the LLINs needed for the delayed campaign.
